Science Friday – Animal Groups

podofdolphins prickle crocodiles

Last week I talked about nonfiction and the Common Core. In the past, easy to read books about nonfiction subjects such as animals were hard to find. Gareth Stevens Publishing has stepped up to the plate, releasing interesting and easy to read animal books.

One series is called Animal Groups. I knew a group of dolphins is called a pod. A prickle of porcupines makes sense. So does a float of crocodiles. But who knew the collective noun for a group of crows is called a murder.

Do you know the name for a group of kangaroos? What about a group of penguins?
